Porter Airlines has announced a large winter 2026-27 expansion that adds four new sun destinations to its network: Aruba, Montego Bay in Jamaica, Los Cabos in Mexico and San Jose in Costa Rica. The announcement was published on April 30, 2026. The airline says its network grows by two new countries, four cities and 15 routes, and that it will operate more than 40 warm-weather routes this season. Here are the routes that matter most to resort travellers, with the dates and conditions that were published.
The new resort routes
The Embraer E195-E2 is the aircraft behind the growth. The routes that serve beach resort areas are:
- Toronto to Aruba, from October 30, 2026, five times weekly.
- Ottawa to Aruba, from November 7, 2026, twice weekly.
- Edmonton to Puerto Vallarta, from November 3, 2026, three times weekly.
- Toronto to Los Cabos, from November 16, 2026, three times weekly.
- Edmonton to Los Cabos, from November 16, 2026, four times weekly.
- Toronto to Montego Bay, from November 23, 2026, five times weekly.
- Ottawa to Montego Bay, from November 25, 2026, twice weekly.
- Toronto to San Jose, Costa Rica, from December 2, 2026, four times weekly.
- Ottawa to Los Cabos, from December 18, 2026, twice weekly.
- Halifax to Cancun, from December 18, 2026, three times weekly.
- Hamilton to Montego Bay, from December 20, 2026, twice weekly.
The package also includes Halifax to Fort Lauderdale and Edmonton and Calgary routes to Phoenix and Las Vegas, which are mainly US city and connection routes rather than resort destinations. Edmonton to Phoenix and Calgary to Phoenix are daily, and Porter says all Phoenix flights connect onward through American Airlines’ domestic network. Porter also says this is its first international flying from Alberta.
Frequency increases on existing routes
Porter is also raising the frequency of routes it already flies. Ottawa to Cancun goes from five to ten flights a week, Hamilton to Cancun from three to six, Toronto to Puerto Vallarta from five weekly to daily, and Ottawa to Nassau from one to two. Hamilton to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando move from five weekly to daily. For resort travellers, the Cancun increases are the headline, because more frequencies make same-day and weekend arrivals easier and give more choice on return days.
The approval caveat
Porter states that flights to and from Montego Bay and San Jose, Costa Rica are subject to regulatory approvals. That wording matters. Until approvals are in place, those routes should be treated as planned rather than certain. If you are choosing a Jamaica or Costa Rica holiday around one of them, avoid non-refundable bookings that depend entirely on a single new route, and check the airline’s booking page to confirm the flights are on sale for your dates.
It is worth keeping a Jamaica plan flexible for another reason. Resort reopenings across the island have been phased since Hurricane Melissa in October 2025, and our article library tracks the current dates for several operators. A new flight does not tell you whether the resort you want is open for your week.
What it means for planning
New Embraer service from smaller Canadian airports gives travellers in Ottawa, Hamilton, Halifax and Edmonton more direct options than a connection through a larger hub. Direct flights usually save the most time on the way home, when a missed connection can ruin the last day of a holiday. The trade-offs are the usual ones for a new route: schedules are often limited to a few days a week, so your available dates may be narrower than with a daily service, and a new route can be retimed or cut if demand disappoints.
Shoulder dates deserve particular care. The first weeks of a new route are the most likely to see a retime or a swap of aircraft, so if your holiday depends on one of the late October or November start dates, check the booking page a few weeks before you fly and again before you leave for the airport.
Practical checks before you book
- Confirm the route is on sale on Porter’s own website for your dates.
- Note which days of the week it flies, then match them to your resort’s check-in and check-out days.
- Check baggage and seat rules on the fare you choose, since fare types differ.
- Confirm the airport transfer plan at your destination, especially for resorts far from the airport.
- Read the cancellation terms of both the flight and the resort before paying.
These are announced schedules, and airlines adjust them. The details above reflect the April 30, 2026 announcement as reported by Pax Global Media. For anything inside a few weeks of departure, trust the airline’s own booking page over any summary, including this one.
