Two schedule items for Cancun this winter point in opposite directions. A Polish charter operator has filed a weekly service from Katowice via Madrid, while a US carrier has cancelled a seasonal route from Providence, Rhode Island. Both come from AeroRoutes, which reports airline schedule filings, and both are worth checking if you have booked or are planning a trip.

World2Fly adds Katowice to Cancun

AeroRoutes reported on August 18, 2026 that World2Fly plans a weekly service linking Katowice, Madrid and Cancun. The report lists:

  • Dates: November 4, 2026 to January 7, 2027.
  • Frequency: one flight a week.
  • Aircraft: Airbus A330-300.
  • Outbound schedule: departing Katowice at 11:00 and arriving in Madrid at 14:10, then leaving Madrid at 15:25 and landing in Cancun at 20:25.
  • Return schedule: departing Cancun at 22:25 and reaching Madrid at 15:15 the next day, before continuing to Katowice.

The report describes the operation as charter flights for the winter season. Charter services are usually sold through tour operators or packages, and seat availability for the general public can be limited. Terms also differ from scheduled airlines, including how cancellations and changes are handled. If you book a package, check who is responsible for rebooking you in a disruption, and whether the package protects you if the flight is changed or the operator fails.

A weekly rotation also means your stay length is effectively fixed to multiples of seven days, so check whether the week-long pattern suits the resort booking you have in mind. Late-evening arrival at 20:25 leaves limited time for dinner service at many resorts, so confirm what the resort offers to guests who arrive after the restaurants close.

Breeze cancels Providence to Cancun

On August 5, 2026, AeroRoutes reported that Breeze Airways is cancelling its seasonal Providence to Cancun service for the northern winter 2026-27 season. The route had been scheduled to resume on December 19, 2026, with two weekly flights during the holiday period and one a week from January 9, 2027, using Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The report does not give a reason for the cancellation.

If you hold a ticket on this route, the airline should contact you about options. Check your email, including spam folders, and review the airline’s own help page. In many cases you are entitled to a refund or rebooking when a carrier cancels a flight, but the rules depend on the jurisdiction and the ticket, so read the airline’s conditions of carriage. Our guide to what to do when your flight is delayed or cancelled on a resort trip sets out the steps, including what documents to keep for insurance.

Travellers in southern New England who were counting on the route now need another way to reach Cancun. The practical alternatives are a connecting itinerary through a larger hub or a drive to a bigger airport with nonstop service, and each changes the cost and the length of the travel day. Price the full journey, including parking or ground transport, before deciding which option is cheaper.

Why small routes shift

Seasonal routes on smaller carriers are more volatile than trunk routes on big airlines. Airlines file schedules months ahead, then adjust as bookings come in. A route can be removed before it ever carries a passenger, which is what the Breeze report describes. When you book a nonstop on a new or seasonal route, it is sensible to:

  1. Check the schedule again a few weeks before departure.
  2. Keep hotel bookings flexible where possible. Our guide to a resort’s own cancellation and refund policy explains what the resort will and will not do if your flight changes.
  3. Consider travel insurance that covers carrier cancellation. See what travel insurance actually covers on an all-inclusive resort trip.
  4. Avoid buying non-refundable ground arrangements, such as private transfers or tours, until the flight is firmly ticketed and the schedule has held for a while.

More Cancun airport context

Cancun remains a heavily served airport. We have reported on 17 new international routes for 2026 and on Aeromexico’s new Tijuana to Cancun route. Source and caveats

Both items are drawn from AeroRoutes reports dated August 2026, which summarise airline schedule filings. We did not find an airline press release for either item. Dates, times and operations may have changed, so check directly with the carrier or tour operator before relying on them.
