Every cell is generated from the fact records behind each profile. Where a cell says “Not published”, we checked the operator’s official source and it was not stated there.

One site, two products

Both publish Playa Matapalo, near Sardinal. Same beach, same road, same drive from Liberia — which neither of them states.

Because location is off the table, this is one of the cleanest comparisons in our coverage. It is entirely about what each hotel is built to do.

The Palace counts; the other equips

Riu Palace Costa Rica publishes six swimming pools, five restaurants and seven bars. Every room category is a junior suite or better: Jr. Suite, Jr. Suite Deluxe, and a connecting pair of junior suites.

Riu Guanacaste publishes three large pools plus a children’s pool with slides, a named water park in Splash Water World, seven bars, and a Superior Family Room with two bedrooms and a pool view.

Six pools against four-plus-a-water-park is not a difference in quantity so much as in purpose. One is pool provision for adults and families who swim; the other is water designed for children.

Rooms: grade versus layout

This is the real fork.

The Palace gives you a better room. Every published category is a suite grade, and the connecting pair is how it accommodates a family — two junior suites side by side.

Riu Guanacaste gives you a better family room. A two-bedroom superior family room is a single unit with a door between the children and the adults, which is a different thing from two connecting rooms and usually the thing families actually want.

Which is better depends on whether you would rather have the nicer room or the more workable one.

Food

The Palace counts five restaurants and names none of them. Riu Guanacaste names none and counts none.

Neither page is useful here. The Palace at least tells you how many times a week you can avoid repeating yourself.

Choose Riu Palace Costa Rica if

You want suite-grade rooms, the widest pool provision on the site, and a restaurant count you can plan around. Also if you are a couple or a pair of couples rather than a family with young children.

Choose Riu Guanacaste if

You have children who want slides and a water park, or you specifically want a two-bedroom family room rather than two connecting ones.

Where the evidence cannot separate them

Neither publishes a room count, so neither property’s density can be judged. Neither publishes its distance from Liberia airport. Neither publishes kids club age bands, and neither publishes a mandatory fee schedule.

Four significant unknowns, identical on both sides, from the same operator on the same plot of land.

Prices

We do not publish prices for this resort yet. We only publish a price when we can state the amount, what it covers, the basis it is quoted on, and when we observed it.

We have no affiliate relationship for this resort yet, so this is not a tracked link and we earn nothing from it. When that changes, this page will say so and the disclosure will appear above it.

New resort profiles, when they are actually verified

We publish a resort profile when we can source it, not on a schedule. Six are currently on hold because the operator will not let us read its own website.

This form is deliberately inactive. No email provider is connected, so nothing would be stored or sent, and we will not collect an address we cannot yet honour.
