Four Seasons announced on September 29, 2026 that Herve Fucho has been appointed general manager of Four Seasons Resort and Residences Dominican Republic at Tropicalia, ahead of a 2027 opening. The appointment, posted on the company’s Dominican Republic press page, says the resort will mark the debut of Four Seasons in the country. For travellers weighing Dominican Republic options, this is a useful marker of how the luxury end of the market is developing, even though the resort is not yet bookable and is not described as an all-inclusive.

What the company has confirmed

The confirmed points are short. The resort opens in 2027. The property page lists the location as Playa Esmeralda, Miches, Dominican Republic. A general manager has been named. The name includes the word Residences, which signals that private homes are part of the project alongside the hotel.

The same press page does not give an opening month, a room count, rates or an amenity list. If you read a precise opening date elsewhere, treat it as unconfirmed until Four Seasons publishes one.

Where sources differ

Two points have shifted over time, and it is worth knowing so you can read older coverage with care.

Timing. Earlier trade coverage from 2023 and 2024 pointed to a 2026 opening. The September 2026 announcement now says 2027, so the schedule has moved. Delays are common with large coastal projects, and they are a reason to avoid planning a trip around an unconfirmed date.

Location. A 2023 company release described the project in terms of Samana Bay, while the current property page names Playa Esmeralda in Miches. Both are on the Dominican Republic’s northeast coast, but they are not the same stretch. The current page is the better guide.

Trade reports we found describe a resort of around 95 rooms and suites with roughly 25 private residences, designed by architect Isay Weinfeld on a site of about 60 acres, and put the investment above US$200 million. These figures come from trade reporting rather than the Four Seasons press page, so treat them as reported, not confirmed. We have not seen a company statement that repeats them.

Why Miches matters

Miches has been drawing resort interest for a few years. Our earlier reports cover Hyatt’s Dreams Playa Esmeralda opening, a 500-room all-inclusive on the same coast, and Cayo Levantado Resort joining Hyatt’s Unbound Collection off Samana. A Four Seasons arrival would add a very different product to the same region: a smaller, residence-linked luxury resort beside large all-inclusive complexes.

For a traveller, the practical effect is more choice at both ends of the price range, but also more construction and development activity nearby while projects finish. If you are booking near a new build, ask the resort whether any work is ongoing close to your room.

How far Miches is from the usual airports

Miches sits well east of the Punta Cana resort strip and north of the main tourist corridor, so transfers are longer than the short hops many Punta Cana guests are used to. Before you book anything in the area, check which airport the resort recommends, how long the transfer takes, and what the road is like. Our guide to resort airport transfers explains the options, and our page on how far from the airport your resort should be helps you weigh a long transfer against a quieter setting.

Reading a resort announcement before it opens

Pre-opening news arrives in stages: a brand announcement, a development milestone, a leadership appointment, then a booking launch. A general manager appointment, as here, usually means the project is moving toward operations, but it does not by itself confirm a date. Treat each stage as a signal and not a promise. Be especially careful with early booking offers on a property that has not opened, since the opening can slip after you pay. Choose flexible or refundable terms, and keep flights changeable. Our guide to what a resort fact sheet actually tells you shows how to separate confirmed facts from marketing language once documents are published.

What to watch for next

Several details are still missing, and each affects whether the resort suits you:

  • A confirmed opening month and when reservations open
  • Official room, suite and villa counts
  • Whether dining, drinks or activities are bundled into any rate plan
  • Age policy and family facilities
  • Transfer arrangements and nearest airport

Luxury resorts also tend to price very differently from all-inclusive complexes, so compare on total cost rather than headline rate. Our method for comparing resorts side by side still applies, even when one option is not all-inclusive.

We will update this article if Four Seasons publishes an opening date, a room count or booking details. Until then, the safe reading is simple: the resort is coming in 2027, it is led by a named general manager, and the rest remains to be announced.
