Lopesan Hotel Group has expanded its Costa Bavaro complex in Punta Cana with three new resorts, a move that widens choice on the Dominican coast for families and adults-only travellers. The group announced the openings in a February 2026 press release, with an opening date of May 1, 2026. This article sets out what the operator and trade coverage said, and what readers should check before booking.
The three resorts
According to the operator’s announcement and trade coverage, the new properties are:
- Lopesan Splash Cove, a family-oriented resort with 244 rooms, including swim-out options and rooms overlooking a water park.
- Lopesan Caoba Lagoon, the largest of the three at 552 rooms, designed around a lagoon in the style of a cenote.
- Lopesan Serenity Bay, an adults-only resort with 239 rooms.
Together that is 991 rooms. A German trade report on the expansion said Lopesan invested more than 300 million euros in the project. We have not been able to verify that figure against an English-language operator release, so treat it as a trade report rather than a confirmed number.
The split between family, lagoon-themed and adults-only resorts is a familiar pattern for large complexes. It lets one operator serve different travellers on the same site, while sharing restaurants, entertainment and back-of-house services. The practical effect for guests is that the three resorts are likely to feel different to stay in, even though they sit within one wider complex.
Shared facilities
Guests at each new property can use the wider Lopesan Costa Bavaro complex, according to the announcement. Facilities named in coverage include an outdoor boulevard with dining, a rum bar and a bowling alley. Access to shared facilities is a common feature of large complexes, but the details differ: some venues are open to every guest, others carry a supplement or require a reservation. Our guide to dine-around and shared complex facilities explains the questions to ask.
What is confirmed and what is not
The opening date, room counts and brand positioning come from the operator’s release and trade coverage. What we could not confirm in the sources we reviewed:
- Whether all three resorts opened on May 1 or in phases. A July 2026 trade listing headlined the expansion as an opening, which suggests they went ahead, but we did not find a dated confirmation per property.
- Current inclusions, such as premium drinks, specialty dining and kids club hours.
- Whether all facilities across the complex are open to all guests every day.
An introductory promotion was also mentioned in the February release: a 10 percent discount for bookings made through February 28, 2026, for travel between June 1 and December 23, 2026. That offer has expired and should not be treated as a current deal.
How to evaluate a new resort in a big complex
New resorts in a large complex can be very good, but they come with a few standard checks.
- Ask about distances. In a large complex, the walk between your room and the main beach or restaurants can be long. Our article on how to choose a room at a large all-inclusive resort covers how to read the layout.
- Check reviews by date. A resort that opened in May will have few reviews, and early ones may reflect opening-month teething problems. Read the most recent entries.
- Understand the age policy. Serenity Bay is described as adults-only, but some complexes allow adults-only guests to use shared family areas. Our guide to what adults-only means inside a family complex explains the variations.
- Look for construction. A complex still adding properties may have works nearby. See how to check for construction or renovation noise before booking.
- Ask how dining works across the complex. Find out whether guests of one resort can book restaurants at the others, and whether reservations open on arrival or before. Our article on a la carte restaurant reservations explains why this matters.
Where it sits on the Punta Cana coast
Costa Bavaro is in the Bavaro area, which has a long beach and a large concentration of resorts. Our Bavaro destination page describes the area, and our comparison Bavaro vs Arena Gorda helps if you are deciding between strips. Source and caveats
