Sunwing Vacations has listed three package routes for the winter 2026-27 season from Canadian cities that are not always well served by sun flights. They run from Winnipeg to Punta Cana, Quebec City to Roatan and Ottawa to Liberia, Costa Rica. Here is what has been reported, which of the three is new and how a package route differs from an ordinary scheduled flight.

The three routes

A Pax News report published on July 20, 2026 describes the following Sunwing packages. The report gives the program window as November 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027, sold through Sunwing.ca.

  • Winnipeg to Punta Cana: starts November 4, 2026. The report notes it operated in 2025 as well.
  • Quebec City to Roatan, Honduras: starts December 14, 2026. The report notes it also operated in 2025.
  • Ottawa to Liberia, Costa Rica: starts December 20, 2026. The report describes this as a first-time package.

So only one of the three is described as new. The other two are returning routes, which is useful to know, since a route that has run before has some operating history.

What the report does not say

The report does not give frequencies, aircraft types or fare levels for these packages, and it does not say whether any route needs government approval. We have not found those details in a primary source, so we do not state them here. For anything beyond the three dates above, check Sunwing’s own site.

What a package route means

A package route is usually sold as a bundle of flight and hotel, and sometimes transfers, rather than as a seat on its own. That affects how you plan. Seats on these flights may be offered only to people who also book a hotel through the operator, or they may be available as flight-only at a different price. Ask which applies before you assume you can book the flight alone.

Package flights also tend to follow a fixed pattern, such as one departure a week, with stays booked in multiples of seven nights. That is a good fit if you want a week or two in the sun, but less so if you need a four-night trip. Our guide on how to build the real cost of an all-inclusive stay explains how to compare a package price against booking separately.

Why these cities matter

Winnipeg, Quebec City and Ottawa are not the busiest hubs for sun travel, and passengers there often face a connection to reach a resort. A direct charter or package flight removes that connection, which can save hours and reduce the chance of missed bags. The destinations are all well known for resorts. Punta Cana is a major all-inclusive area, Roatan is a Bay Islands destination known for reef diving and snorkelling, and Liberia serves the Guanacaste coast of Costa Rica.

Comparing a package with booking separately

A package price can look higher or lower than building the trip yourself, and the only fair test is to compare like with like. Price the same hotel, the same room type and the same dates, then add a scheduled flight, transfers and any baggage fees. Packages often include checked baggage and transfers, which scheduled fares may charge for separately. On the other hand, a package can limit your choice of hotel and tie you to the operator’s change rules. Do the sum for your own dates before deciding.

Protection also differs. Booking flight and hotel together through one operator can mean a single point of contact if something goes wrong, while separate bookings leave you to sort out each supplier. Read the booking conditions to see exactly what the operator promises.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Can I book the flight without the hotel? If not, the hotel choice may be limited.
  • What are the exact flight days and times? Early-morning departures and late-night returns change how much of your first and last day you get.
  • Is the transfer included? Check whether airport transfers are part of the price.
  • What are the change and cancellation terms? Package terms differ from airline fares, and refunds often follow the operator’s rules.
  • What protection is in place if the flight is cancelled? Ask what the operator offers and read the booking conditions.

A note on timing

These listings come from a report that is a few months old, and the package dates were stated for a program that begins in a few weeks. That suggests the Punta Cana start is close, so check availability and dates right away if you are planning a November trip. Later routes have more time to change.
