The trade, stated plainly

Ninety kilometres from Sangster International, about ninety minutes by road, on Jamaica’s north coast at Mammee Bay.

You are buying a setting and paying for it in driving time. That is the entire proposition, and whether it is a good deal depends almost completely on how long you are staying.

Do the arithmetic before anything else

Three hours round trip. On a ten-night stay that is a morning, and the north coast is worth a morning. On a four-night stay it is roughly a quarter of your usable daylight, and it comes out of arrival and departure day — the two days that are already the shortest.

There are resorts fifteen minutes from the same terminal. If your trip is short, they win, and no feature list on a north-coast property should be allowed to overturn that.

Why families end up here anyway

In our current Jamaica coverage, the Montego Bay corridor is entirely adults-only. The family resort is here.

So for a family trip to Jamaica, the ninety-minute drive is presently not a choice between locations — it is the cost of the only family option we can document. That may change as coverage grows, and we will say so when it does.

What the family resort here actually offers

Six pools including two with swim-up bars and dedicated children’s pools, RIU Land, and — worth flagging — an indoor playground.

Indoor provision is rarely published and disproportionately valuable. Caribbean rain is heavy and brief, and having somewhere dry for children to go is the difference between a lost afternoon and an inconvenient one. Very few operators mention it at all.

The 24-hour all-inclusive model earns its keep here too: after ninety minutes in a transfer bus with tired children, food that does not depend on a service window is not a luxury.

What is not published

The kids club is named but its age band is not stated on the Ocho Rios page — even though the same brand publishes four to twelve for the same club in Punta Cana. We do not carry a figure between properties, so here it stays unknown. Ask before booking if your children are near the edges.
