The trade, stated plainly

Negril is on Jamaica’s west coast, along Norman Manley Boulevard and Seven Mile Beach. The operator we can document publishes approximately 80 km from Sangster International at Montego Bay.

Jamaica’s three resort clusters, by published distance from the same airport:

• Montego Bay corridor — 2.7 km, about ten to fifteen minutes
• Ocho Rios — 90 km, about ninety minutes
• Negril — approximately 80 km, drive time not published

So Negril is roughly comparable to Ocho Rios in distance, in the opposite direction, and with one difference: the Ocho Rios operator publishes a drive time and the Negril one does not.

Why we have not estimated the drive

Eighty kilometres on Jamaican coastal roads is not eighty kilometres on a motorway, and the honest answer is that we do not know. Published distance without published time is a partial fact, and we would rather show you the gap than fill it with something plausible.

What the distance is for

Seven Mile Beach, and a resort strip that is not adjacent to an airport corridor. Whether that is worth the driving depends almost entirely on the length of your stay — on a fortnight it vanishes, on four nights it is a real fraction of the trip.

Our coverage here

One property, Hotel Riu Negril. It publishes a two-bedroom family room with a sea view and a swim-up suite, names seven dining venues, and publishes no room count, pool count or bar count.

One resort is not coverage of a destination, and we would rather say so than imply we have surveyed the west coast.
