Dhaalu Atoll

Two private islands, side by side

Kedhigandu and Maafushi, each holding one resort, joined by a walkway that the operator publishes rather than implies.

That is an unusual arrangement in the Maldives, where the one-island-one-resort model normally means genuine isolation. Here you have a neighbour you can walk to, which changes what a two-week stay feels like and widens a small dining offer.

Getting in

A 45-minute domestic flight from Male to Kudahuvadhoo, then a 15-minute speedboat. Both properties publish the identical sequence with identical durations.

Kudahuvadhoo is the domestic airport serving the atoll. The schedule of those domestic flights, not the resort, is what determines whether a given arrival works.

The two tiers

The Palace island is smaller at 176 rooms and suite-graded throughout, with overwater suites including one with a private pool. The Atoll island is larger at 264 rooms, publishes a standard double as well as overwater junior suites, and runs the dive centre.

If the overwater room is the point of the trip, both islands publish one, at different grades. That is the most practical thing about this pairing.

What the atoll pages do not tell you

Neither publishes a minimum age. Neither publishes the green tax or bed tax. Neither publishes a bar count.

And the reciprocity question stands: Palace guests are told they may eat at Atoll, and Atoll guests are told nothing about eating at the Palace.
