What resort operators do not publish, and why it matters
A pattern, counted
We hold sourced fact records for sixteen resorts across Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Aruba. Every fact comes from the operator’s own page.
The interesting result is not what they publish. It is what almost none of them do.
Mandatory fees: one resort in sixteen publishes a figure. Exactly one, and it does so because a state environmental levy required it. Every other operator is silent — not “there is no fee”, simply nothing stated.
Kids club age bands: three in sixteen. Most resorts confirm a children’s club exists and decline to say who it is for. One publishes opening hours as well, which is the only time we have seen that anywhere.
Minimum ages at adults-only resorts: a minority. Several properties are labelled adults-only, repeatedly and prominently, with no age stated anywhere on the page.
Total room counts and exclusions lists: absent more often than present.
Why these particular facts
Look at what the four have in common. Every one of them is a fact that can lose a booking.
A published mandatory fee makes the headline rate look higher. A kids club band of four to twelve tells a family with a toddler to go elsewhere. A minimum age of sixteen tells a couple seeking a strictly adult week to look at another resort. An exclusions list tells you what the “all-inclusive” is not.
We are not alleging concealment, and we have no evidence of intent. But the omissions are not randomly distributed across the things an operator could tell you. They cluster precisely on the facts most likely to disqualify a booking, and that is worth noticing.
The cost of the gaps
These are not trivia. They are the four things most likely to make a holiday go wrong:
- You arrive to an unexpected per-night charge at checkout.
- The kids club your family resort was chosen for will not take your three-year-old.
- Your adults-only resort admits sixteen-year-olds in a school-holiday week.
- The premium spirits, the signature restaurant and the spa were never in the rate.
Each is avoidable with one email. None is avoidable by reading the website harder.
What to ask, and how
Send one message before you pay, and keep the reply:
- What mandatory charges apply per night or per stay, payable at the property or at booking?
- What is the exact minimum age, if the resort is adults-only?
- What are the kids club age bands and opening hours?
- What is excluded from the all-inclusive rate?
- Is the airport transfer included, and if not, what does it cost?
A resort that answers all five clearly is telling you something good about how it is run. One that answers none is also telling you something.
Why we publish the gaps rather than fill them
Every resort profile on this site carries a section listing what the operator does not publish. It would be easy to fill those from a booking site or a travel blog, and every page would look more complete.
We do not, because a fact with no source is not a fact — it is a guess wearing one. An honest gap is more useful than a confident answer that turns out to be wrong at checkout.
