Marriott’s St. Regis brand has opened a new beachfront resort in Costa Mujeres, the newer resort strip north of Cancun. The St. Regis Costa Mujeres Resort, Cancun was announced as open in a press release dated June 23, 2026, and it adds a luxury name to an area best known so far for large all-inclusive properties.
What has been announced
The resort sits in Costa Mujeres near the El Meco archaeological site, according to the opening release. It was designed by the Mexican architecture firm Sordo Madaleno. Trade coverage of the opening describes 163 guest rooms and 50 suites, which gives a total of 213 keys. A pre-opening report had cited a different figure of 160 rooms and suites plus 80 branded residences, so room numbers have shifted since the project was first described.
The release names two signature accommodations, the Caroline Astor Suite and the Presidential Suite. It also lists:
- Nine food and beverage outlets. Named venues include Costa Coral for all-day dining, Fish Market for seafood, Palmare Grill for Mexican coastal cooking and Shami, a rooftop concept that combines Japanese technique with Mexican Caribbean ingredients.
- A spa with 16 treatment suites. Two of these are Signature Spa Suites with private Jacuzzis, and the spa includes a thermal circuit.
- An oceanfront infinity pool and a fitness centre overlooking the sea.
- A kids club and recreation spaces aimed at families and multigenerational groups.
- Roughly 9,700 square feet of event space, including the Astor Ballroom.
The brand’s usual service features are also part of the offer, including butler service and afternoon tea. The release says ocean excursions support coral reef restoration, though it gives no further detail on that programme.
What is not confirmed
The material we reviewed does not describe the resort as all-inclusive. That matters for readers of this site, because the Costa Mujeres strip is known mainly for all-inclusive properties, and a St. Regis could be sold on a room-only or bed-and-breakfast basis. Check the board basis before comparing it with its neighbours. Our guide to resort meal plans compared explains how each label differs.
Rates are also unsettled in the sources. An earlier trade report in December 2025 quoted an opening rate from US$479 per night from the property’s website, while a report after opening put entry-level rates at just over US$660 per night before Mexican taxes and service charges. These come from different dates and different outlets, so treat neither as a current price. The same report notes that taxes and service charges can add around 30 percent or more to the base rate, which is worth factoring into any comparison.
The opening was also later than first planned. The resort was announced in late 2022 with an early 2025 target, according to coverage of the debut.
Where it fits in Costa Mujeres
Costa Mujeres faces the water across from Isla Mujeres and has grown quickly in recent years. Questions to ask before booking
- Is the rate room only, or does it include meals and drinks?
- Are any residences or villas sold separately, and could that affect construction around the resort?
- What is the kids club age range and schedule?
- Which dining venues require reservations, and are they open every night?
- What are the taxes and service charges on top of the quoted rate?
The construction question is not a criticism of this resort. It is simply a standard check for any new strip where multiple projects are still under way. Our guide to how to check for construction or renovation noise before booking sets out how to do it.
