The transfer is the first decision, not the last

In the Caribbean, the airport transfer is a number you check after choosing a resort. In the Maldives it is the structure of the trip.

Both properties we document publish the same route: a 45-minute domestic flight from Male to Kudahuvadhoo, then a 15-minute speedboat to the hotel pier.

Two legs, roughly an hour of travel after an international flight, and domestic schedules that determine which arrivals are usable. This is why a Maldives trip is rarely short, and why the transfer belongs at the front of the planning rather than the end.

Two islands, one operator, a walkway between them

Hotel Riu Palace Maldivas on Kedhigandu: 176 rooms, overwater suites including one category with a private pool, and the most specific all-inclusive list in our entire coverage — room service, laundry, spa access and premium spirits all named as included.

Hotel Riu Atoll on Maafushi: 264 rooms, three restaurants, two pools, overwater junior suites at a lower grade, and a named dive centre with an included introductory session.

They are connected by a walkway, which is published. The Palace page states that its guests may use the themed restaurants at Atoll. Whether that access runs the other way is not stated, and we have not assumed it does.

What “all-inclusive” means here versus the Caribbean

More, on the published evidence. Laundry and spa access are included at the Palace property and are chargeable extras at essentially every Caribbean resort we have documented.

That is a real difference in the product, and it is one of the few cases where an operator’s inclusions list is specific enough to be useful rather than decorative.

The tax gap

The Maldives commonly applies a green tax and a bed tax to resort stays. Neither operator page we read mentions either.

We have not sourced the amounts to an official government page, so we are not going to state them. But you should assume charges exist beyond the rate and ask what they are.

Who this destination is wrong for

Anyone on a short trip, anyone who wants to leave the resort during the stay, and anyone choosing on dining variety — three restaurants on an island you cannot leave is a genuinely different proposition from eleven on a coast you can.
