Hotel Riu Palace Costa Rica

Six pools and seven bars against five restaurants, on the same Playa Matapalo address as its sister hotel. Every room category published here is a junior suite or better, which is the clearest published difference between the two.

It counts things, which in this chain is unusual

Five restaurants. Seven bars. Six swimming pools.

Across thirty-four resort records we hold, properties that publish a pool count at all are in the minority, and six is the highest figure in our Costa Rica coverage. The operator is being specific here in a way it is not on the sister property next door.

The room grade is the real difference

Every published category is a junior suite or above: Jr. Suite, Jr. Suite Deluxe, and a connecting pair of junior suites for families who want two rooms.

Compare that with the hotel at the same address, which publishes double rooms and a two-bedroom family room. If you are choosing between the two, you are choosing between suite-grade rooms and a purpose-built family layout — on the same sand, at the same distance from the same airport.

Where it stops short

It counts five restaurants and names none of them. That is the inverse of the problem at the Bahamas property, which names five and miscounts them, and it is less useful than it sounds: a count tells you how often you can avoid repeating yourself, but not whether any of it is food you want.

It also does not say whether any of the six pools is adults-only, which on a family property is a fair question.

And as with its neighbour, there is no room count and no airport distance.

The honest summary

A well-specified resort on the numbers that describe capacity, and an unspecified one on the numbers that describe experience. If you want suites and a lot of pool, the published evidence supports that. If you want to know what you will eat, it does not.

Mandatory costs

The operator does not publish a mandatory fee schedule on its official pages. That is not the same as there being no fee. It means we read the official source and found no figure, so we are not going to state one. Confirm any property charges at the point of booking.

Strengths, and what supports them

  • Counts both its restaurants and its pools, which most of this chain does not
    Because: dining.restaurant_count, pools.pool_count
  • Six pools is the highest published pool count in our Costa Rica coverage
    Because: pools.pool_count
  • Every published room category is a junior suite or above
    Because: rooms.categories

Limitations, and what supports them

  • Counts five restaurants but does not name any of them
    Because: unknowns.dining.restaurant_names
  • Does not say whether any of the six pools is adults-only
    Because: unknowns.pools.adults_only_pool
  • No room count and no airport distance
    Because: unknowns.rooms.room_count

Who it suits

  • young family
  • multigen
  • couples
  • luxury

Who it is not for

  • Adults wanting a child-free resort
    Because: identity.audience_class = family
  • Families who want a two-bedroom family room
Because: rooms.categories – the categories here are junior suites and a connecting pair, not a family room
  • Parents who need confirmed kids club ages
    Because: unknowns.children.kids_club_age_bands
  • Anyone who wants a firm mandatory-fee total in advance
    Because: fee_position=not_published_by_operator

What the operator does not publish

We checked the official source for each of these and it was not stated. We have not filled them in from anywhere else:

  • room count
  • airport distance
  • restaurant names
  • kids club age bands
  • adults only pool
  • mandatory fees
  • exclusions notable
  • beach type
  • step free access notes

Prices

We do not publish prices for this resort yet. We only publish a price when we can state the amount, what it covers, the basis it is quoted on, and when we observed it.

We have no affiliate relationship for Hotel Riu Palace Costa Rica yet, so this is not a tracked link and we earn nothing from it. When that changes, this page will say so and the disclosure will appear above it.

New resort profiles, when they are actually verified

We publish a resort profile when we can source it, not on a schedule. Six are currently on hold because the operator will not let us read its own website.

This form is deliberately inactive. No email provider is connected, so nothing would be stored or sent, and we will not collect an address we cannot yet honour.
