Barbados has added two new hotels this year, and a Caribbean Journal feature published on October 24, 2026 brings them together in a wider look at the island’s new openings. Hotel Indigo Bridgetown Barbados is a 132-room property on the south coast at Hastings, and Blue Monkey Hotel & Beach Club is a 28-suite boutique stay at Paynes Bay on the west coast. Neither is an all-inclusive resort in the way most of our readers use the term, so this report is mainly useful if you are weighing Barbados as a base and want to know what is new.

Hotel Indigo Bridgetown Barbados

Caribbean Journal reports that Hotel Indigo Bridgetown Barbados is open, with 132 rooms on the Hastings shoreline close to the Richard Haynes Boardwalk. The hotel has two rooftop plunge pools and a rooftop lounge. An earlier Caribbean Journal piece from June 18, 2026 reported the hotel as now open, and an August 23, 2026 feature grouped it with Blue Monkey as a pair of new Barbados hotels. The earlier coverage also mentions suites with private hot tubs.

Some details vary between sources. The 132-room count is consistent. However, the number of floors is given as seven in one report and six in booking-site listings, and listings disagree on the number of pools. I found no IHG press release that settles these points, so the opening date, room count and layout rest on travel-media reports and booking listings. If a detail matters to your choice, confirm it with the hotel directly.

Hastings sits between Bridgetown and the busier south coast stretches of Rockley and St. Lawrence Gap. That makes it a practical base for travellers who want to eat out, walk the boardwalk and use public transport or taxis, rather than stay inside a resort compound.

Blue Monkey Hotel & Beach Club

Blue Monkey Hotel & Beach Club is described as open, with 28 suites and a private beach club in Paynes Bay on what is often called the Platinum Coast. The article does not give an opening date. The west coast is known for calm water and a run of upscale hotels, so a small boutique property fits the area. At 28 suites, it is likely to feel very different from a large resort, with fewer facilities and a more personal scale.

Neither is an all-inclusive

This point matters for our readers. Nothing in the reporting describes either hotel as all-inclusive, so you should not assume meals and drinks are included in the room rate. If you are comparing them with a resort that includes food and drink, build the real cost by adding meals, drinks, transfers and taxes to the room rate. Our walkthrough on building the real total cost of an all-inclusive stay shows the method, and it works just as well in reverse for room-only hotels. If you want to understand what the all-inclusive label does cover, see what 24-hour all-inclusive actually means.

How the new openings fit the wider picture

The same Caribbean Journal feature mentions other projects. Pendry Barbados is not yet open and is targeting 2027 on the northwest coast, which we covered in our Pendry Barbados report. The feature also lists a Beaches resort from Sandals as announced and in the development pipeline, with an unconfirmed opening date, and says it is described elsewhere as a 600-room family all-inclusive. Existing all-inclusive options named in the article include Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados.

In other words, the two hotels covered here are the open ones. The rest are future projects, and an announced name is not a bookable room.

Who each hotel suits

  • Hotel Indigo Bridgetown suits travellers who want a lively south coast base, rooftop views and easy access to restaurants and the boardwalk.
  • Blue Monkey suits travellers who prefer a small west coast boutique stay and a private beach club, and who are happy to pay separately for meals.
  • Neither suits a guest who wants a fully included, do-nothing week. For that, look at an all-inclusive property.

What to confirm before booking

  • The exact number of pools and whether rooftop plunge pools are open to all guests.
  • Whether breakfast is included, and what the resort or hotel fees are.
  • Beach access and sunbed policies, especially at the south coast hotel.
  • Airport transfer time and cost. Our guide to resort airport transfers covers the options.
  • Recent guest reviews, read carefully. See how to read resort reviews without being misled.

The bottom line

Barbados now has two new open hotels that add choice outside the traditional all-inclusive model. Hotel Indigo Bridgetown offers 132 rooms and rooftop pools on the south coast, and Blue Monkey offers 28 suites and a private beach club on the west coast. Details such as floor and pool counts differ between sources, so verify them before you pay a deposit.
