Barbados is getting its first Pendry resort. According to a Caribbean Journal report published on October 17, 2026, Pendry Hotels & Resorts is building an oceanfront hotel, a private residence collection and a yacht marina near Speightstown on the island’s northwest coast. The brand sits within Montage International and is described as the first Pendry in the Caribbean. The project is still under construction, and the only timing given is a 2027 target.

What has been reported

The site is the former Port Ferdinand marina, a stretch of the west coast north of the busiest resort belt. The reported hotel has 80 oceanfront guestrooms and suites, and it sits directly on the beach. The article names Robert Glazier and HKS as architects, with Studio Munge also involved in the design.

The marina is a large part of the plan. It is reported to have 110 berths and to include the Pendry Yacht Club, which the brand describes as the first offering of its kind for Pendry. Dockside dining venues overlook the water, alongside a signature restaurant.

The wider list of facilities includes a spa with eight treatment rooms, fitness facilities, a sports offering called Compass Sports, and the Paintbox Children’s Club for families. There is also dedicated event space. The report adds 46 private residences ranging from two to five bedrooms, with interiors by RH. Some ground-floor residences are described as having private gardens and infinity-edge pools, and owners can arrange upkeep assistance while they are away.

Michael Fuerstman, a co-founder of the brand, is quoted calling Barbados “an exciting next chapter for Pendry.”

What is not confirmed

The report is clear about its limits, and so should any plan built on it. It does not give room rates. It does not give a confirmed opening date, only a 2027 target tied to a topping-off milestone mentioned in an April 23 update. It does not say how many of the 80 units are rooms and how many are suites, and it does not name restaurants, menus or chefs. It also does not say whether bookings are open or whether the residences will be available to rent.

It also does not say whether the resort will include meals, drinks or any all-inclusive plan. Nothing in the reporting describes it as an all-inclusive, so do not assume one. If board basis matters to your budget, ask the brand directly once reservations open. Our guide to what 24-hour all-inclusive actually means explains how much the label can vary between properties, which is a good reason to check the wording on any new listing.

Why the location matters

Speightstown is a quieter, more local town than the resort strip further south, and it is known for a small historic centre and low-key waterfront cafes. The article mentions Local & Co and Little Bristol in Speightstown as nearby places, and notes that they are not part of Pendry. A resort here will feel different from the larger beachfront complexes on the island’s busiest stretches, with a marina setting as the main draw rather than a big pool deck.

That has practical consequences. A small hotel of 80 units means fewer rooms to go round and less capacity to absorb a busy season. If you are drawn to the idea, plan early once dates are published, and check how far the property sits from the airport and from the beaches and restaurants you want to reach. Our note on how far from the airport your resort should be covers the questions worth asking about transfer time.

How to treat an announced opening

A 2027 target is a plan, not a booking window. New resorts commonly open in phases, and dates move as construction, staffing and inspections are completed. The sensible approach is simple:

  • Do not book flights or non-refundable stays against a resort that has not published a confirmed opening date.
  • Look for the brand’s own reservations page rather than third-party listings that may carry placeholder dates.
  • Check which facilities will be running at opening. Spas, kids’ clubs and secondary restaurants are often the last to arrive.
  • Ask about construction nearby. A marina and residence build can continue after the hotel welcomes guests. Our guide to how old your resort is and when it was last refurbished explains how to read build dates.

Where it fits for resort shoppers

For readers comparing Caribbean resorts, Pendry Barbados is best read as a development to watch rather than a place to plan around today. It adds a luxury, marina-led option to the northwest coast, and the published numbers give a clear sense of scale: 80 hotel units, 46 homes and 110 berths. The unknowns, especially price, board basis and the opening date, are the ones that decide whether it suits a given trip.

If you want to compare established options in the meantime, our page on resorts that publish a room count is a useful starting point. We will update this coverage when Pendry or Montage publishes a confirmed opening date and rates.
