Riu Palace Maldivas vs Riu Atoll

Same transfer, same atoll, walkable between

Both publish an identical route: a 45-minute domestic flight from Male to Kudahuvadhoo, then a 15-minute speedboat to the pier. And a walkway connects the two islands.

So this is not a location decision either. It is about scale, grade and what the rate covers.

The asymmetry nobody should overlook

The Palace page states that its guests have access to the themed restaurants at Hotel Riu Atoll.

The Atoll page states nothing about access to the Palace.

We are not going to assume reciprocity, and neither should you. On the published evidence, one island’s guests get a wider dining offer than the other’s — and it is the more expensive island that gets it.

This matters because Atoll publishes only three restaurants for 264 rooms, which is the smallest dining offer in our entire coverage, on an island you cannot leave.

Scale and grade

Riu Palace Maldivas: 176 rooms. Jr. Suite, Junior Suite with beach access, overwater Suite, and an overwater Suite with a private pool. Suite-graded throughout.

Riu Atoll: 264 rooms. Double Standard, Double with direct beach access, overwater Junior Suite, and Superior overwater Junior Suite.

The Atoll is bigger and goes lower; the Palace is smaller and goes higher. Both publish an overwater category, which is the practical point — you do not have to buy the Palace grade to sleep over water.

What the rate covers

The Palace publishes the most specific inclusions list in our coverage: room service, special diets, spa access, medical service, laundry, premium brand drinks, non-stop snacks and water sports.

Laundry and spa access included is genuinely unusual. At essentially every Caribbean resort we document, both are chargeable.

The Atoll publishes no comparable list, but does publish something the Palace does not: a named dive operation, Scuba Carib, with an introductory scuba session in the pool included.

Choose Riu Palace Maldivas if

You want suite-grade rooms throughout, you want laundry and spa access inside the rate, or you want the overwater suite with a private pool. Also if dining variety matters, because its guests can eat on both islands.

Choose Riu Atoll if

You want an overwater room without the Palace grade, you want a standard double as an option, you are travelling with children, or diving is part of the trip.

Where the evidence cannot separate them

Neither publishes a minimum age, a bar count, or kids club age bands. Neither mentions the Maldives green tax or bed tax, which are commonly charged on stays here — so neither tells you the real total.
