Riviera Maya resorts with swim-up and private-pool rooms

Swim-up is not the same as private pool

Worth settling first, because operators use both words loosely.

A swim-up room opens onto a shared pool. You step off your terrace into water other guests are also in.

A private pool room has its own water. Nobody else is in it.

Both entries here publish one or the other. Neither publishes both.

Barcelo Maya Caribe — swim-up, two grades

Why it is here: Premium Level Swim-Up Junior Suite and Premium Level Swim-Up Suite, both published by name.

The catch: No counts. The operator does not say how many rooms are in either category, or how many rooms the hotel has at all, so you cannot tell how scarce they are. Both sit in the Premium Level tier, so they carry that upgrade with them.

Also: two water parks, eight pools, and 48 miles from Cancun airport.

Grand Palladium Kantenah — private pools, including a rooftop

Why it is here: A Residence Suite Beachfront with a private pool, and a Family Selection Junior Suite with a rooftop private pool.

The rooftop category is the most unusual room product we have documented anywhere.

The catch: Again no counts, and the Family Selection grade is a sub-brand with its own terms the operator does not fully publish here.

Also: 253 rooms, ten named restaurants, kids club ages 1 to 19 published with hours.

Where the better-documented swim-up rooms actually are

Outside the Riviera Maya, three properties publish counts: TRS Coral at Costa Mujeres has 94 swim-out rooms of 473, Grand Palladium Select Bavaro has 38 private-pool and swim-up rooms of 506, and Grand Palladium Jamaica has 48 private-pool rooms of 537.

If the room is the point of the trip rather than the destination, those are the better-evidenced choices, and we say so rather than pretending this list is the whole answer.

A minimum age, a mandatory fee schedule, or how many of these rooms exist.
